Be prepared, number two is freakishly long, and not extremely entertaining, but I wanted to get it all down, because it was fun to reminisce about.
Blog entry number one: My Valentine *waves to Jen*
Where do I start? I believe it was the winter of 2005. It was a cold, and lonely afternoon, when I first realized we had something special. Though I had seen her around OT, I was always a little too shy to approach her. Then, as fate would have it, one night she was in the bar, just sitting there. Her eyes were glazed over, and her speach was slurred...*swoony sigh* and we started to talk. Really talk. I mean, we even talked about reality TV. Who does that? Who meets one night in a bar, and then finds themselves in a deep conversation about television? It meant something to me. I think it did to her, too. So later, on that winter day, we were blogging (yes, we had progressed to blogging together) and somehow, it came up that we each needed a Valentine. It took all my courage to ask her. It took her less than a second to decide. Yeah. We were meant to be. I just love my Valentine. Today, all this time later, and we are still going strong. We've met, kissed, and then today, she even helped me downoad some pictures onto blogger for me. *smile* I'm keeping my Valentine. I lvoe her!
Blog entry number two: My birth story *waves to Zombs*
Well, when I was 5 months pregnant, my parents found out I was expecting. I have no idea how I hid it so well. Well, yes, I do. Big boobs! LOL. Anyhow, at 6 months along, I went in for an ultrasound, (my first Dr. appt) and the technician told my mother to sit down. She then pointed to the screen and said, "see this? That's baby number one..."
After the out of body experience I had right then, I noticed my mother was being unbelievably calm. I guess she felt she had to be, so that somebody was! I have almost no memory of it, but they said I started crying, grabbed my breasts and was saying "I can't breastfeed TWO!".
Anyways, I had wanted to be surprised as to the sex of the baby, but after that surprise, I decided that was enough. She told me I was having a boy, first, and I was on pins and needles waiting for news on the other one. I wanted a girl so bad! Eventually, she confirmed I was having one of each. I was pretty happy with that.
Eventually we learned that I would need a c-section, since the babies were breech and transverse. The Doctor wanted to schedule it for August 9th, and I begged him to reconsider. For some reason, it was unacceptable to me, to have their birthday be on that date. I am not saying it's rational, but it's how I felt. He agreed to change his schedule and come in on the 10th, for me.
August 10th comes and well, when it's a surgery like this, there are not many surprises. It was over pretty quickly, really. Couple interesting sidenotes;
One, the catheter caught me completely off guard, and resulted in me crying from the shock of what they'd just done to me. And? They shaved me first. Bastards.
Why did they need to shave me?? They didn't even ask. I thought that was very rude.
Second, the IV. Well, again, totally caught me off guard. It hurt really bad, as I was expecting it to be just like a regular shot. I had NO idea it was different. Didn't go over too well.
Third, the epidural sucked. I had two babies in me, and they needed me to bend all the way over. Eff that! I couldn't bend a little bit over. What were they thinking? It felt like a cold metal rod was being shoved up my spine. Not so good.
Right after the doctor performed the cesarean, he said (as if I wasn't awake) "well, at least one of them is cute". WTF? Next thing I know, somebody brings my son over to me. I noticed that he was completely perfect looking. Which meant? DD must be the ugly one. *sigh* I didn' care too much. I mean hey, it's my baby, I'll love her no matter what, right?
They wheeled me into the recovery room, where I was supposed to be comfortable for the next few hours, since that's what the epidural stuff does. Wrong. The pain came searing across my belly like nothing I had ever before, nor since, felt. It felt like fire was slicing a line in my abdomen. Unbelievable. I couldn't focus, and was trying to convey to the nurse that I was not ok. But, according to my chart, I was fine. *eye roll* "Nope, you should be fine for a while, honey", she says. They brought a baby to me, to nurse. I put my hand up, pushing the baby away, saying (again) that I was not ok. It was hurting so bad I thought I might die (really!). The nurse looked really confused, but finally ordered something that came in a syringe. She poked it into my thigh and the next thing I knew...*happy sigh* I was all good! In fact, I was too good! Much to my DH's dismay (then DBF) I couldn't remember his name. LOL.
Anyhow (almost done, hang in there) after the drug prevented me from certain death, I was ready to see the ugly little baby girl. I was bracing myself when they brought her over. I was watching everyone else's reaction to her, trying to read their faces, but they were only smiling. When I saw her, I was shocked. She was perfect. Beautiful! Like a little pixie doll, everyone said. Pixie dolls were before my time, but it sounded cute. lol!
I realized then, that the doctor actually meant that my SON was the unattractive one. And in hindsight, ok, he was a little odd looking. Like an alien, I guess. Huge eyes, big mouth, big nose, all on a tiny 5lb 9oz body. (DD was 5lbs 15oz)
Both babies were healthy, didn't need oxygen or anything. It was a relief. I was ok, and sent home after two days. It was amazing to me how you lose all sense of privacy, and pride even, when in the hospital. People come in and tell you to spread your legs, and you do it. I dunno. Not so unusual I guess. LOL. I had to take a shower, and they expected the babies' daddy to help me, and I freaked out. Are you kidding me? I had just had two babies and they thought I would let him see me naked? I might have lost some pride but um, no thanks! My mom helped me. I went home and started breastfeeding. Such was my life for the next 5-9 months. They both quit after that, much to my dismay, actually. I loved breastfeeding! (DS quit at 5 months, and DD at 9 months, after I left town overnight)
I guess that is pretty much my baby story. Thanks for reading! It was fun to share. :)
I had the kids at 37 weeks, if I remember correctly. Please keep in mind that I was highly anemic, and look terrible. I'm surprised I'm even sharing these, lol!
This was me, and my new life, when I got home. I was a feeding machine! Looks like I have hairy boobs, huh?
Just love this picture. They were pretty new here, and very skinny looking.
Here, they were ten days old. We went to a wedding.
